Brand History
Founded in 2003 by Sun Laichun, Forest Cabin began with handmade soap and botanical care before settling on camellia as its core ingredient around 2012 and pivoting to facial oils. In 2016 it proposed 'nourishing skin with oil' — a contrarian call in a water-and-lotion market where oils were seen as pore-clogging. Content-led education that oily skin could use oil created a new category, and the camellia oil became a billion-renminbi-scale hero SKU.
The brand stayed direct-run, mostly in shopping malls, with in-store treatments driving conversion. A public 'self-rescue' during the 2020 lockdown generated unusual awareness. In 2025 Forest Cabin listed in Hong Kong with revenue of RMB 2.45bn and adjusted profit of RMB 401m, both more than doubling, as online revenue jumped 141.46% and Douyin became its largest channel.
