Brand History
Founded in Shanghai in 1931 by Gu Zhihuai, Pechoin is among China's oldest cosmetics brands; its blue tin of cream was a mid-century staple before the brand faded through restructuring and ageing. In 2008 it repositioned around herbal skincare with a 'natural, non-irritating' claim, backed by heavy TV and variety-show spend, and grew explosively between 2013 and 2017.
After 2018, insurgent brands rewrote the rules with ingredients and content commerce, TV reach lost efficiency and a mid-to-low price structure slowed growth. Pechoin responded with 'tech herbals', co-developed ingredients, younger sub-brands such as Zhenyan and Sanshenghua, and a rebuilt Douyin matrix. As a private company it publishes no financials, so beyond media-reported 2017 retail sales its recent revenue cannot be verified.
