Dissolving microneedle patches are moving from clinics to daily skincare shelves. The patch uses micron-scale needles made of medical-grade hyaluronic acid and biodegradable polymers that painlessly penetrate the stratum corneum, never reaching dermal nerves or vessels, then dissolve in interstitial fluid to deliver actives directly into the skin.
Compared with topical application, the format bypasses the absorption bottleneck of the corneum barrier. Under in-vitro test conditions, delivery absorption rates of 50%–90% have been reported (test data, not real-world skincare outcomes) — the core reason it is dubbed 'efficacy skincare 2.0'.
The value chain runs from upstream materials (hyaluronic acid from Bloomage, recombinant collagen from Jinbo Bio), through midstream manufacturing (Zhongke Weimicron, Zhuhai Youwei, Shenzhen Qinglan), to dual downstream channels of medical aesthetics and mass retail.
| Chain node | Representative players | Key capability |
|---|---|---|
| Upstream materials | Bloomage, Jinbo Bio | HA matrix, recombinant collagen actives |
| Midstream manufacturing | Zhongke Weimicron, ShineYouth, Youwei, Qinglan | RT printing, scale lines, Class-II registration |
| Downstream channels | Clinics + e-commerce retail | Persona segmentation & hero-SKU ops |
| International benchmarks | Raphas (KR), CosMED (JP) | Early commercialisation & clinical data |
Competition shows a two-layer structure of 'tech platforms + category applications': platform firms like Zhongke Weimicron build moats on process and registration capability, offering CRO/CMO/CDMO/ODM services, while brands focus on personas and scenarios, turning patches into hero SKUs for eye-area, anti-wrinkle and acne care.
For practitioners: near term watch standards and filing compliance; mid term watch room-temperature processes for cost and actives compatibility; long term watch actives combinations and clinical evidence. Format dividends typically last 2–3 years — brands that build 'tech narrative + data endorsement' first will capture excess premium.
