Brand History
Mistine was launched in 1988 by Thailand's Better Way. The founder's insight was simple: global brands were not taking tropical makeup seriously — heat, humidity, sweat and melting foundation are everyday facts in Bangkok and not in Paris. The brand therefore started in colour cosmetics built on water-and-sweat resistance and long wear, and became a household name in Thailand.
In 2016 Mistine entered China through the Sino-Thai joint venture Better Way Shenzhen, initially still in colour, before pivoting to suncare. Thailand's tropical provenance gave it category legitimacy; the 'yellow cap' sunscreen took off on high protection, light texture and mass pricing, and has ranked first in sunscreen on Tmall Global since 2021. Localisation goes further than most imported brands: a Shanghai R&D centre, more than 95% of products made in Thailand, a local factory in planning, and a stated intention to list in China in 2027-28. Distribution began with creator livestreams and social distribution across Taobao, Douyin and Kuaishou, and now includes Watsons, KKV and Sanfu offline.

Editor's note: Mistine wins because provenance is the pitch — sunscreen from a tropical country needs no advertising copy. The next challenge is the price band: RMB 60-100 is the most brutal part of the market, upgrade means efficacy and texture, downgrade means white-label drag. A listing would put this growth model under public scrutiny for the first time.
